The Walker Center for Global Entrepreneurship at the Thunderbird School of Global Management partnered with the Business Development Center of Jordan and delivered programs addressing the concerns of entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises in Jordan. |
These programs were focused on enhancing the capacity, functionality and sustainability of businesses in Jordan for the economic and social benefit of the country. Specifically, the programs were centered on the acceleration of established businesses, increasing entrepreneurial capacity among youth and women, and leadership training for managers and executives of small and medium enterprises. The four main components to the Jordan Partnership were: SEEDS, Maharat at Thunderbird, Jordan Internships, and Executive Training seminars in Amman.
Women entrepreneurs and business owners from Jordan were selected to participate in a two-week, intensive entrepreneurship and business leadership training program at Thunderbird’s Glendale, Arizona campus. This program focuses on courses that provide women with skills to advance their existing businesses, provide them with mentorship from an experienced woman entrepreneur, and an international network of contacts. Coursework is taught by Thunderbird professors and successful entrepreneurs.

Jordanian students who excelled in the Business Development Center of Jordan’s Maharat Program were selected to attend Thunderbird’s Glendale, Arizona campus for one trimester of study. These twenty students lived and took classes along side Thunderbird’s full time Master’s students to complete a “Certificate of Global Business,” preparing them to return to work with small and medium-sized enterprises in Jordan to advance these businesses into the global economy.
Thunderbird’s full time MBA students have the opportunity to work as consultants with selected businesses in Jordan. These qualified interns spend one trimester in Jordan working with a business to develop and implement action plans that aid the businesses on specific marketing, exporting, finance, brand-management, and other business needs.
The executive training program was developed to meet the needs of women entrepreneurs, mid-level managers, and business owners in Jordan. Participants attended multiple in-country seminars taught by Thunderbird faculty focusing on business management and leadership. The seminars gave businesses a chance to address the changes that occur as businesses grow and move into global markets.
